Artist Bio
Susan Aparicio (b. 1996, Bell, CA / Pico Rivera, CA) is a visual artist based in Los Angeles, CA. She received her BA in Studio Art and Cognitive Science from the University of Virginia, and her MFA at the University of California, Los Angeles in Art - New Genres.
My work takes on my lived experiences and family stories as a point of departure to play with my first gen Mexican Honduran American upbringing, born and raised in Los Angeles :) I am a 90’s baby and 2000’s kid invested in ideas of girlhood and growing up in LA. My video and stained glass works present pop culture as a playful space while mixing in the mythos and aesthetics I grew up with around sci-fi and spirituality. Sometimes I even play characters. I also have my family as a collaborator, with an archive of home footage and photos I pull from in addition to working together in the present day.
