Welcome to my Homepage presents /spore-archive by Hua Chai.
Project Description
/spore-archive is an ongoing creative experiment which explores virtual taxidermy as a form of preserving digital artifacts that have become obsolete and are at risk of being lost. Hua Chai has preserved their gameplay from the 2008 video game, Spore, through a process of converting screen captures to 3D objects. Explore their virtual logbook, which sits perfectly in the middle of history museum dioramas, archaeological log books, sitcom style drama, and video game nostalgia.
Artist Bio
Born on the cusp of the Internet age in Malaysia, Hua Chai (they/he, @huazzers) is a gender-glitched experimental media artist who is inspired by how Internet phenomena interfaces with individual expression, community interactions, socio-political infrastructures, and identity formation. Hua makes playful interactive digital projects (dubbed as “games” for convenience’s sake) which act as a collective portrait of their observations and experiences.
