“Outlier” conducts practices of repurposing abandoned instruments in order to subvert both obsolescence and accessibility in our throw-away-society. Beginning in late 2011, Mark McCoin (Associate Professor, UTSA New Media Art) and Max Bernstein (The Wooster Group, Kaki King, Michelle Ellsworth), under the ensemble-title “Outlier,” began experimenting with the sonic potentials of piano harps as aural landscape and orchestra. The process of hunting for, and engaging with cumbersome architecture in the age of midi instruments and engineered desuetude, supplants the piano's history as a culturally privileged, and inaccessible object. Combining a mixture of unorthodox methods and custom noisemakers, the two established an athletic and dynamic experience, which happily existed in many contexts. Borrowing from music, sound, visual art, and performance traditions, this collaboration liberated itself from any one discipline in order to exist as its own interdisciplinary integration.
Christie Blizard

Blizard's performance work aims to be a hinge between the present and the death dimension. She wears masks of Elle Fanning and Scarlett Johansson because they represent the death masks of which the Other can enter. Each performance builds upon the next with new facets of the Other, sound and spontaneous movement, using analog synthesizers, electricity, and vocalizations. The movements are exorcistic and the sounds try to locate an inhuman voice.
Martín C. Rodríguez & Helena Rodríguez

Martín's eloquent body movements laced with solemn personal stories invigorate space and time in his new performance 'Oculus'. Improvised electronic sounds drive the physical, while the narrative is explored and revealed through a meditative state.
Martín received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2003 and Master of Fine Arts in 2018, both from The University of Texas at San Antonio. He is a New Media Interdisciplinary artist of Puerto Rican descent, with an emphasis in performance and installations, having performed at the Capilla del Arte in Puebla City, the Museo Soumaya in Mexico City and Hotel Pupik in Scheifling, Austria. His art is part of both private and public collections.
