Altar is an ongoing series pairing one visual/installation artist and one performance based artist for a large-scale immersive environment based experience.
Altar III: The Living Room Presented by The Museum of Human Achievement, Bill Baird, Taurin Barrera, Re/Max and The CoA Arts Division.
On July 5th at the Museum of Human Achievement, Rick Boss, the most successful real estate realtor in the history of Boise, Idaho's burgeoning real estate market will make a special presentation of his latest extremely successful business venture, "The Living Room." It is a room constructed of Saran Wrap, in which multiple sensors and camera feed into remote computers performing complex algorithms based on your behavior. Basically, you'll be mounted and watched by an extremely successful real estate salesman! The honor is yours. (He will be assisted in his presentation by his two assistants, Bill Baird and Taurin Barrera.)
"The Living Room" is an interactive home entertainment environment! Your every movement will change the music you hear, the videos you see, and the color spectrum splayed across your space!
"It is an extremely successful combination of business and pleasure," says Rick Boss, the head honcho. Using infra-red sensors, magnetic touch sensors, motion tracking, and video surveillance, the environment will change from moment to moment in stunning bursts of sensory excitement!
"I look forward to watching you remotely," continues Boss. "I never appear in person. Afraid of germs." Rick Boss pauses to spray his hands with anti-bacterial spray. "I will be appearing via television screen to guide your experience. I have an extremely white smile. You can trust me that when I document your every movements digitally, my smile will be extremely white. The purity of your experience will match the whiteness of my teeth." Rick Boss gives one last pearly smile, just to reassure us.
It's just that kind of reassurance that makes us so excited to purchase whatever Boss has to sell. Indeed, "The Living Room" seems like an extraordinary consumer opportunity. I personally have no problem being monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as long as an astute observer of the human condition like Rick Boss is the one watching me.
"I look forward to selling you something," says Boss. "Specifically, the Living Room. It's an interactive environment, filled with all sorts of fun sensors and monitors. Don't freak out! The sensors will detect that."
His minions Bill Baird and Taurin Barrera will be there in person, guiding the crowd through their extremely agreeable purchasing experience. They will answer any and all questions and give a thorough demonstration of The Living Room.
Show Times Saturday July 7th - 4pm, 7pm and 9pm Sunday July 8th - 4pm and 7pm at The Museum of Human Achievement $10 advance / $12 door Seating will be limited to 20 per show Purchasing advance tickets is strongly recommended
