Resident Onboarding Homepage

From MoHA Wiki

Welcome to your Welcome to my Hompepage residency! What follows is our Official Resident Guide!

Power up

Mindset and dedicated time are incredibly important to the Hompepage experience. Despite being browser-based, this is an artist residency and it requires your intention to approach it like one. Set aside some time each day to log in to your digital studio (or mentaltly log in if you're doing offline work). Tell your pals you're doing a residency and allow yourself to step back from your typical routine (to whatever extent you can) and sink into the experience.

Log in details will be emailed to you from wixcom just prior to your residency starting.

Move-in

There are a few different ways to move in:

  • Create work and build your site behind-the-scenes, then have a digital show at the end.
  • Post updates as you go, so the public can see your process.

Or anything in between! Let us know what route you're leaning towards.

Ready to Go Live

When you're ready to go live, hit Public and send us an email so we can connect your site to the "front door" on the Homepage. Once you're live, remember to publish each time you make updates. :)

Remodeling

The Homepage has an HTML5 site builder, which is kinda clunky, but super user friendly. Think of it as your collaboration partner. Our basic Wix guide is here. Wix.com has decent help pages, too. You can also ask us if you get stuck on trying to make something happen.

Bypass Wix

Wanna bypass Wix? You're totally welcome to use your own webspace. Please keep a bio page and a link to http://www.welcometomyhomepage.net/about-residency on your site so visitors know who you are and what the residency is.

Bio

Share biographical info, URLs for your personal site and social accounts, or whatever else you want visitors to know about you (or your alias/persona) on the "About Resident" page (or link to your bio page if you're using your own site).

Address & Archive

Please use the Homepage splash page address (welcometomyhomepage.net) when posting about or linking to your project during your residency. Your site will be hosted at the "front door" from when it's published until the next resident publishes. Afterwards, it will be hosted at the Past Residents "side door" for about 3 months. We retain your project URL in our archive along with screen captures of your residency so your project doesn't totally disappear into cyberspace. Your creations are yours. If you'd like the site transferred to your own account after, just ask. If you don't want to be archived, please let us know.

Stipent

We offer a $250 stipend to assist with your internet bill and any other expenses related to your stay (spend it however you want). Please send us your Paypal or Venmo account name. We also pay for Wix Premium to keep your project ad-free from the time you publish until the next resident publishes.

Mentors

We have a constellation of friends, alumni, and acquaintances who are happy to offer guidance or a casual convo. If you would like to discuss technical, conceptual, or other aspects of your project with a mentor, let us know what you're seeking and we'll see if we can make a connection for you!

MoHA Discord

Here's your invitation to join our online community of past and future homepage residents, fans, MoHA studio members, and digital artists near and far. If you're unsure about Discord, we made a guide for you.
