Short History
Since its founding in 2012 by a group of artists and community leaders with deep ties to East Austin, The Museum of Human Achievement (MoHA) has been committed to providing funding, infrastructure, professional support, and physical space to under-resourced artists across all disciplines.
MoHA began as an informal DIY collective with a $4k operating budget, donated from the savings of a piano teacher, with no loans or institutional support. Its initial purposes were to create and protect affordable spaces for artists in the growing city, and to produce multidisciplinary, playful, and collaborative programming which might not otherwise have a home in Austin.
In the years since, MoHA has grown into a 501(c)3 nonprofit which has hosted thousands of events, redistributed $423k in grants, and provided low-cost studio space to 240 artists and 110 arts organizations. Today, MoHA maintains a full-time staff of six and an annual operating budget of $650k, all devoted to building a more equitable and sustainable future for the community.
