The Museum of Human Achievement (MoHA) is seeking a collaborative, highly organized, and mission-driven Events Manager to coordinate, produce, and support the wide range of public programs, performances, workshops, and rentals that take place at MoHA. This full-time role plays an essential part in supporting our programs, staff, facilities, and community.
The Events Manager will lead MoHA’s event coordination processes for internal (staff-driven) and external (community organizer-driven) programs/events, manage pre-production and on-site production, support earned revenue through rentals, and help maintain clear communication across staff, organizers, artists, and partners. The Events Manager reports to the Program Director and works with the Facilities/Production Manager. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative, DIY arts environment and enjoys hands-on problem solving in dynamic situations.

Strengthen MoHA’s programs, partnerships, and sustainability through thoughtful, organized, and community-centered event management.
The ideal candidate has experience in event production, scheduling, contractor coordination, and communication with artists and community organizers. Prior experience in all job duties is a plus; however, we are willing to provide training and support where needed.
Hiring Details
We are looking for a candidate in Austin ready for immediate start who is able to commute to MoHA. The schedule is Tues-Sat with evening/weekend event shifts 1-2 times per week. During your first two months (aka provisional period) we expect regular, on-site hours. Once established in the role, some flexible work location and hours may be determined with your supervisor, with expected availability for on-site meetings and events.
Shared office space will be provided at MoHA. Having your own laptop is nice but not necessary (we have computers on site). Some local travel for meetings and events may be required.

Requirements
- 1-2 years in events management or production
- Experience using project management systems
- Experience managing contractors or small teams and delegating
- Understanding of live production equipment (sound, lights, video)
- Strong at written communications and organizational skills
- Experience working with arts and cultural events, artists, and community organizers
- Inspired by working in a collaborative, DIY environment of diverse artists and creative folks
- Good at communication, open to asking questions for clarification and double checking
- Communicative, friendly, and flexible
- Self-motivated and able to self direct
- Able to lift 50lb and work hands-on in outdoor and un-climate controlled venues spaces
- Able to work nights (typically 1-2 times per week) and weekends
Candidates should be
- Comfortable with intermediate computer skills (able to use webtools - we use Google Suite, project management platforms - we use monday.com, and new software with user guides)
- Attentive to detail
- Familiar with MoHA
- Enjoys hands-on labor, organizing, rummaging through art related debris
- Comfortable working in an artist-run space (kinda grungy at times! mostly not climate controlled)
Duties and Responsibilities
MoHA Event Management
- Collaborate with Program Director and Facilities/Production Manager to ensure successful delivery of Events
- Manage the MoHA Events/Program Calendar
- Pre-Production for Events
- Coordinate MoHA Program Events
- Determine production needs
- Communicate needs with staff (Facilities and Production Manager, Program Staff, Executive Director) using Monday.com and Internal Policies
- Coordinate staff to provide event info and use this info to build ticket links and share backend information to organizers
- Collaborate with staff to schedule monthly and annual events in advance
- Determine production needs
- Coordinate Events from Outside Organizers
- Review event proposals and inquiries as primary point of contact
- Consider capacity and mission alignment
- Build budgets, event agreements and scope of work
- Facilitate organizers to submit all event info and use this info to build ticket links and share backend information to organizers
- Communicate event needs with staff
- Meet quarterly earned income goals from venue rentals
- Send rental agreements that include production plan and budgets
- Review event proposals and inquiries as primary point of contact
- Coordinate MoHA Program Events
- Event Close Out
- Prompt documentation and closeout requests from staff or organizers
- Generate invoices for event rentals and production support
- Settle up budgets and check invoice payment
- Pay contractors and organizers
- On-Site Production of Events
- Be on site as needed to help manage events (in collaboration with staff)
- Event Prep/Event Production/Management/Site Management for up to half of MoHA and Outside Organizer Events
- Manage front of house needs, contractors and volunteers (ticketing, concessions, attendee info)
Equipment Inventory and Facilities Support
- Collaborate with Facilities Manager on equipment maintenance, inventory management, and training support
- Empower self-service with how-to guides and organized equipment
- Oversee upkeep of concessions area and inventory
Outreach
- Coordinate sponsorship outreach for product donations (as needed)
- Maintain positive relationships with ideal organizers for repeat business
- Solicit rentals and partnerships for the types of events that work within the capacity and mission of the space (repeat meetings, rehearsal space, serial events, low support needs film shoots)
- Manage rental listings on Peerspace and other sources and promote space through location scout channels, private rental use and other earned revenue sources
Fiscal Sponsorship Support
- Help manage fiscally sponsored projects via Open Collective including onboarding and administrative support.

Pay and Benefits
Pay:
- Salary for this full time position is $44,000-$48,000, commensurate with experience.
Fringe Benefits:
- Monthly health insurance reimbursement of up to $400/month.
- Annual wellness stipend of up to $500.
Paid Time Off:
- Up to 30 paid vacation days per year
- Up to 12 paid sick days per year
- 10 paid holiday days per year
Employees are eligible for benefits after 2 months of employment.
