About the I/O Residency
“I/O” stands for Input/Output – a reference to the flow between where art is created (the studio) and where it’s shared (the gallery).
The I/O Residency is designed for undergraduate art students and recent graduates living in the Austin-Round Rock-Georgetown area, including Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis, and Williamson counties.
This residency supports artists who are thinking beyond the traditional white-cube gallery. We’re especially interested in proposals that explore how artwork can engage with space, time, and the natural environment.
We are prioritizing emerging artists, particularly current undergraduate students and recent graduates, to provide more opportunities for public engagement and creative growth.
As part of your application, you’ll be asked to include a drawing or media collage that shows your idea for the space. The application includes a mock-up of the trailer’s outline and measurements to help guide your sketch or proposal.
