Mailchimp Tags Overview

From MoHA Wiki

Purpose:

A walkthrough of Mailchimp’s tags and when to use them.

Tags for Staff:

In Mailchimp, Staff use tags to determine what emails users get when they subscribe. Staff use segments to combine groups and tags to make a mailing list.

Global Tags:

  • Community
    • Organizations or individuals who make up the community of MoHA, who have presented, sponsored, or been involved in some way.
  • Public
    • People who have inquired, applied, purchased a ticket, indicated volunteer interest, or attended an event.
  • Donor
    • People who have donated money or sponsored MoHA.
  • Admin
    • People in leadership, people who have volunteered, contractors.
  • Artist
    • Individuals who have participated in programs. This includes past or current Homepage artists and past or present Mall vendors.

Segments:

Use segments to send an email to a specific group of users. Global tags are also split up into smaller groups. For example “Public - Games Y’all Attendee” would email just people who have attended a Games Y’all in the past.

Creating Tags:

You can create customized tags in Mailchimp. When a tag is created in Mailchimp, add it to the Mailchimp Tags base in Airtable so the database remains up to date.

Tags for Users:

Users can self-select what kind of emails they want to receive by using groups.
