When it was conceived, As Above So Below was about the complications of spatial and temporal distance, and the role technology plays in both expanding and traversing this distance. The intention was to digitally induce a sense of intimacy by live streaming the mundane sounds of ordinary objects activated by physical interactions in the course of daily life. A new system of time was to be created, regulated by the irregular frequencies of those sounds. So Below So Below is the result of a communication breakdown, an emotional distance that finally caught up with a physical distance, a slow-motion long-distance collapse. What do you miss when you lose someone who wasn’t even there? Idealized memories? Imagined presence? Impossible futures? The simulation of closeness? Saying “I miss you”?

So Below So Below uses digital alchemy to manifest the ghost of a relationship. The result of this masturbatory urge to keep going is a downward spiral into a solitary echo chamber of feedback loops, self-surveillance and audio hoarding.
