  • What:

Jasmine Chock is creating an outdoor art installation for The Cage Match Project at The Museum of Human Achievement. For the installation Jasmine, with the assistance of Julia Kunze, is making a lion dance costume for the 20'x7'x8' cage with four lion heads using plastic bags, plastic twine, plastic bag crochet elements and paper mache. The installation will open August 2, 2024 at The Museum of Human Achievement

For this workshop, participants will get to:

  • hear more about the plastic lion dance project
  • see parts of its progress
  • learn how to make plastic bag yarn
  • participate in making the plastic bag lion by helping make plastic bag yarn, crocheted elements and pom poms
  • share their experiences with lion dance and plastic bags and imagine how this four-headed plastic bag lion came to be

Participants will receive a 7.0mm or 8.0mm crochet hook.

Participants do not need to have prior crocheting experience to participate! This workshop will be 20% learning how to make plastic bag yarn and 80% community art making with several art making stations.

If you have any white, red or yellow plastic shopping bags that you would be willing to donate to the plastic bag lion, please bring them to the workshop! We greatly appreciate your contribution.

We will provide snacks. Water refill fountains are available at the AARC.
