Cage Match Project (CMP) is looking for a Curator. This position is grant-funded for one year and intends to secure additional ongoing funding.

CMP seeks a dedicated and organized Curator to manage all aspects of CMP programming and oversee Marketing with Admin Support. In a part-time position, an ideal candidate would be responsible for updating and maintaining the CMP website using WordPress. In this position you will be expected to submit all exhibition information promptly along with coordinating installation logistics, including scheduling, accommodations, and artist support. There are opportunities to receive additional pay for the Curator to take on more responsibilities such as documentation of exhibition and managing the CMP Podcast, if interested.

For our Fall and Spring CMP installations, CMP was awarded grant funding from the city of Austin to support an Open Call for junior and senior undergraduate students in Austin area. Students studying the arts in the Austin area will be invited to apply with a proposal for one of our upcoming seasons.

As a Curator, you will work closely and manage program activities with CMP’s Curator Assistant, Diar Enayatpour, as well as with Marketing and Admin Support. We highly encourage Black, Indigenous, Latine, and POC applicants and those with diverse gender and sexual identities, including those who may come from non-traditional employment backgrounds. We welcome potential applicants' questions about the requirements for this position before or during the application process.

About Cage Match Project

Since 2017, Cage Match Project (CMP) is a gallery living in an industrial caged trailer. Measured at 20x8x7 feet, this weathered and rusted container resides in a gravel parking lot in Austin, TX, where it is under constant exposure to the elements and 24-hour public viewership. By fully embracing the caged trailer as both literal and conceptual context, Cage Match Project purposefully stages a narrative of the artist-at-odds, with either history, space, or a work of art itself.

Through an open call process, with several exhibitions per year, CMP has hosted 23 Rounds of physical installations, 2 seasons of podcasts, and 12 workshops, all created and led by the community and invited artists and collectives. Aside from exhibition openings, gallery hours, and public programming, CMP coordinates networking opportunities between emerging artists and Austin’s art community. CMP maintains a platform through in-person and digital events, highlighting and showcasing each artist’s practice to a national and international audience. The very nature of CMP is intersectional, not as a theoretical term but as an everyday practice and lived experience.
