new work by Jennifer Steverson as part of HIVE's Featured Artist Program
This show is an exploration of survival through art. The word "Blues" refers to traditional Blues music as well as the various shades created using indigo dye. Jennifer Steverson’s practice uses textiles to explore Black Southern culture, family legacies and healing in the African Diaspora. Her work uses Indigo, a plant that is sacred and highly valued in Nigeria and was also cultivated for commercial purposes on plantations in the antebellum Carolina’s.
