Members of Never Again Action ATX, including Artist Itai Almor and local organizer Alicia Torres, will facilitate a community teach-in about migrants and security at Texas's Southern border. They will pull back the veil on the Texas state government's efforts to create panic about undocumented migrants, presenting facts, uplifting human accounts and pointing to the true crises we are suffering as a state. Learn about the inner workings of an unprecedented investment in border militarization, surveillance of communities and state violence called Operation Lonestar, and what it's costing all Texans. Conversation will be guided and illustrated by art created by Itai Almor, supported in part by the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
The teach in will orient around questions such as:
- Is there a border crisis?
- Is border security really making you safer?
- What’s the real cost of Operation Lonestar?
We’ll also share facts about what's happening at and near the Texas border, who's arriving there, how, and why, what used to happen to migrants like them, and what's happening to them now. Expect to unpack the myths you may have heard about migrants.
Accessibility:
The Museum of Human Achievement is an ADA Accessible space. We will strive to meet the accessibility needs of all our attendees. Families are welcome! A childcare area will be provided with supervision for young children and simple activities for them. ASL and real-time Spanish interpretation will be provided.
Light snacks and refreshments will also be provided.
RSVP is required. We will ask for an email or phone number for reminder purposes only. Your contact information will not be retained or used in any other way without your consent.
