==="shìshí shì shíshì" - Vivian Hua===
The first night will be Wooley interviewing Vandermark for Sound American; the second night will be a concert of Wooley & Vandermark, both playing solo sets and then as a duo.
''In the Gallery | 6-8pm''

"shìshí shì shíshì" is the sonic romanization of the Chinese sentence, "事實是實事", which loosely translates to, "Reality is a true fact". Using video, sound, and text-to-speech software, this project will explore how repetition can make words feel increasingly out-of-this-world -- especially a tonal language with a very different structural foundation than English.
The two-night event is also a release show for Sound American's first book of back issues as well as the release of a companion cassette, via Astral Spirits - one side is a trio recording by Philip White/Chris Pitsiokos/C. Spencer Yeh doing a version of Cardew's "Treatise". Side B is Nate Wooley interviewing music researcher Ian Nagoski (Canary Records).

Vivian Hua (華婷婷) is an interdisciplinary artist, writer, and filmmaker who is fascinated by metaphysical themes, underrepresented humans, multiculturalism, and psychedelia. She likes talking to strangers about nothing or anything at all.

Playing with juxtaposition and repetition to deconstruct old American phrases and idioms from the 1800s, Hannah Jove will perform a live poetry reading over the video and sounds of shìshí shì shìshí. Side by side, Chinese and English will encourage viewers to contemplate what exactly defines a word and how world views are defined by linguistic know-how.
