About MoHA

What hours is MoHA open to the public?
MoHA is unlike typical museums in that we do not have regular hours open for visitors. MoHA is only open to the public when there is an event happening. You can learn more about when you can visit and attend an event at MoHA on our Upcoming Events page.

Where is it? It doesn’t look like a museum.
MoHA is located at 3600 Lyons Rd, Austin, TX 78702. Look for a tan warehouse building with a bus, astroturf, a brightly colored trailer, and painted stages out front in the gravel lot.

Why doesn’t this look like a museum?
MoHA is a multidisciplinary art space, meaning that we do many different things indoors, outdoors, and online – not only the white wall galleries that you may be thinking of. Our space is intended to be flexible to the needs of our programming and community members.

Check out the variety of programming we do on our Upcoming Events and Past Events pages.

Do you have a collection like… a museum?
Kind of. All around the physical space, you’re bound to find objects from past programming, and this very Wiki is a public digital archive, or full collection, of all things MoHA that we continue to update today. We’re a collecting institution of human achievements and a living archive for the people.

We invite you to dig into or even try your hand at informally curating a collection by searching our Wiki, such as our Past Events.

What is this? Explain yourselves.
If you haven’t already, visit our About page to learn more about MoHA.

I don’t get it?
If you’re still confused, we invite you to attend an upcoming event to experience what we do here! View our upcoming events here. You can also send us an email at info@themuseumofhumanachievement.com.

Why aren’t you doing shows all the time anymore?
MoHA’s programming and community of creatives have grown immensely over the years. We’ve shifted our focus to supporting Austin artists with more workshops, residencies, and support programs than ever before. Read our highlights here. That being said, we still enjoy putting on events; however, we are staying within our capacity in order to sustainably support our organization, programs, and community.

Human Achievement? What have y’all achieved?
Many things. Look at our Good Job MoHA page to learn about some of our highlighted achievements.

How do you get money? How is this funded?
MoHA is financially supported through grant funding, donations, and sponsorships. Learn more about supporting MoHA here.

Is this space accessible?
MoHA prioritizes and continues to work on improving accessibility, in terms of our physical space, digital materials, affordability, and programming. MoHA’s physical space is ADA compliant with wheelchair accessible audience areas, restrooms, stage, studios, and common spaces; these are indicated with signage.

That being said, our space is well worn and well loved. Most of our space is an un-climate controlled warehouse with old wooden flooring and a lumpy dirt parking lot. The inside temperatures are the outside temperatures, and appropriate footwear is recommended.

Are there (insert demographic) people there?
We thoughtfully run and improve our programs according to our mission, values, and community’s input to support the diverse identities and experiences of our community members. To make sure we serve our community equitably, our programs are led by a guiding body of 19 leaders (74% BIPOC, 48% LGBTQIA+, 16% disabled).

Doing Stuff at MoHA

How do I get involved at MoHA?
We recommend looking at our Start page for interest-specific guides and our Current Opportunities page for ways to get involved right now.

I have an idea for an event, and I’m interested in hosting it at MoHA. What next?
Exciting to hear that you’re interested in hosting an event at MoHA. Just a heads up — our calendar is limited and subject to availability. Please refer to the Organizer Start page for information about how to host an event and submit an event inquiry to us as an organizer.

I’m an artist looking for a studio space or residencies at MoHA. How can I find more information?
There’s plenty of ways to get involved as an artist at MoHA. We suggest diving into the information on our Artist Start page.

Can I build something at MoHA and use the amenities if I don’t have a studio here?
Maybe. Our facilities are not available to the general public, but you can help us build things and get familiar with the space by signing up for a volunteer shift, such as for space improvements. You can also let us know more about what exactly you’re looking for by sending an email to info@themuseumofhumanachievement.com.

Can I just come here and make art?
We don’t have public open hours, but we do host many events and opportunities to make things and invite you to attend. Learn more here.

I love MoHA. How can I support?
We think you’re pretty cool yourself. You can volunteer or donate, and we really appreciate your support! More information is on the Support MoHA page.

Miscellaneous Questions

Does MoHA want my stuff?
Depends. If you’d like to donate some of your things to us, send an email to info@themuseumofhumanachievement.com to start the conversation. Please do not show up and/or drop off your things without previous arrangements with us.

Can I bring my parents to MoHA?
Yes, parents are welcome at MoHA. We do host a wide range of events, so please review event details to identify whether that is an event your parents would enjoy.

Can I work here?
Occasionally we have openings for contract labor and staff positions. You can check for positions we are hiring for at MoHA on our Jobs page.

What should I wear?
MoHA is not climate-controlled, aside from the back office area. The temperature inside is the temperature outside, so please dress according to outside weather.

MoHA is a warehouse with wet paint, gravel, and artist materials, so we recommend closed toe flat shoes, and an outfit that won't snag or get tripped on. We want you to have the best time while remaining safe and gorgeous.

Can I bring my kid or whatever?
Up to your discretion and depends on the event. Some events are family-friendly, others may benefit from a conversation beforehand, and others are not suitable for kids.

We recommend reviewing the event details and asking the organizers of that event any questions you may have before attending.

Are dogs allowed?
Service animals are welcome at MoHA. Generally yes to non-service dogs, as long as you are able to watch your dog, your dog is well-behaved (and will respect and be kind to our cats), and, if you’re attending an event, have reviewed the event info and contacted the organizers to make sure.

Do people live here?
No, people do not live here. A family of 4 cats does though, and occasionally more raccoons than we would like.
